Another Poem

Apparently a class discussion on Toomer's "Cane" was not enough to sustain my attention. (Disclaimer: I thoroughly enjoyed Toomer's novella). And so my mind turned again to my own poetry.

Will her cement shoes melt into the soil of the earth?
Will the shattered glass house of thrown stones bleed her bones?
Will her sustenance be synthesized?
Sidewalks crack with the wilting weeds and the whispering words
of a world once known...
calling, calling, calling her home.

A Poem Amidst Art History Notes

Recently, I've been going back through my old undergrad notebooks, scanning for poetry or creative ideas I may have jotted down among my notes, when my mind grew weary of professorial lectures on Muslim-Jewish relations in Spain during the 15th century. As I find things worth publication, I'll add them to my blog.

This particular poem seems to have been inspired by a spell of boredom the came over me as I strained to take notes on the Yang Shao Culture in my Chinese Art History class. Enjoy...

"Ringo Fan"

Oh Taxman,
how innocent you are
through the speakers
of my brand new 2009 Mercedes SLK.
But really:
Run for your life if you can little taxman.
I've already hid my Capital Gains in the sand.
(In the sands of Gayhead Island).
Who needs charities?
When its cheaper to exploit loopholes.
I may look sensitive in my pink Vineyard Vines v-necks,
but your problems have no place in my Rubber Soul.

A Virgin Post

I've created this blog as a medium to express my dedication to and obsession with the humanities and cultural curiosities in our postmodern world. I have many, many, too many interests. From the arts, to history, to music, to philosophy, to sports, to antiques, to cooking, the list could go on forever. I'd like to think of myself as a Renaissance man with ADD. This blog will be a place for my many interests to manifest themselves in a myriad of ways. One day it may be a poem I have written, or a segment of a short story I am working on. Other days, it might be sports commentary, a political editorial, or a review of a new music album. At some point I will begin organizing and categorizing my posts and interests, but for now it will be a chaotic smorgasbord of creativity. Enjoy...
